Precautions for aluminum welding

As we have said, aluminum reacts with oxygen creating a very hard oxide layer on its outer surface. For this reason, the MIG welding process of aluminum starts with the removal of the oxide layer - alumina: it must be ensured that no alumina molecule remains, otherwise the welded joint will not be intact.

Furthermore, given the thermal conductivity of the metal, it is necessary to preheat the parts. To prevent the metal from re-oxidising before and during welding, a shielding gas: is used: the gas most often used is pure argon which also has the ability to increase the temperature of the electric arc, improving quality of the merger.
